Grade 8 Math: Exponent Operations

In this topic, the student learns more about exponents. This series of four lessons furthers the understanding of the student on exponential operations. The student will learn how to multiply exponents when the exponents are negative, multiply fractions with exponents, and divide exponents.

The student will also learn how to approximate square roots between integers. This series will help the student further their knowledge on the principles of exponents.

Multiply with Negative Exponents

This lesson teaches the student how to multiply two numbers with the same base and negative exponents. The student learns to handle multiplying negative exponents much like how they learned to multiply with positive exponents.

Multiply Fractions with Exponents

This lesson teaches the student how to handle multiplying fractions with exponents. This lesson helps the student further their knowledge of the rational numbers.

Divide Exponents

In this lesson, the student learns how to divide exponents. They use the foundation of the previous two lessons to aid them in finding the solution to the problems presented.

Roots

This lesson teaches the student how to approximate the square root of a number. The student is taught how to use a table of perfect squares to approximate where the square root of a number will be.
